The Festival of Lights opened for the season Dec. 3 and will remain lit from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. through Dec. 25. Each night there are greeters ready to greet visitors and collect donations.

Get your family loaded in the car, turn on the Christmas tunes and head out to the Festival of Lights inside Comanche Trail Park. The annual light display officially turned on Dec. 3 and has already drawn a couple thousand visitors from across the United States, including Arizona, New Mexico and Louisiana.

Families from Howard County are already making the visit to the park in anticipation of seeing the new additions to the display of lights. According to the City of Big Spring website, there are more than 700,000 lights in all the displays. Those driving by the park are privy to the poinsettia display on the outside bank of Comanche Trail Lake. As families enter the park, from the Highway 87 entrance nearest Wal-mart, they are greeted by two angels blowing their trumpets, lighted poinsettias and other holiday friends.

As visitors travel through the lighted display, greeters are on hand at the Gingerbread House near the historic spring, to count visitors and accept donations. All money donated benefits the future displays and help make the event an annual occurrence. There may even be some special treats handed out and some holiday friends on hand, such as Gingerbread man, Grinch and maybe even Santa.

The lights are on nightly from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. Those wanting to view the lights should enter from the park entrance nearest Wal-mart and exit on Wasson Road or on the far South Highway 87 exit. Lights will be turned on nightly until December 25.
