Coahoma’s Austin Perkins to sign with Mcpherson College

COAHOMA — Coahoma High School senior Austin Perkins is taking his athletic talents to the next level.

The three-year varsity Bulldog football player will continue his academic and athletic career at Mcpherson College in Kansas. Coahoma High School will host a public signing ceremony for Perkins and his family at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21, in the high school auditorium.

During his time on the Coahoma gridiron, Perkins was a standout two-way starter, who broke several school records including career receiving yards (2,079), career catches (108), and career touchdowns (31).

In week one of the 2023 season, Perkins was named the first Built Ford Tough 3A Player of the Week for his performanc­e during Coahoma's 50-34 win over Forsan High School in the Howard County Bowl. In that game, Perkins made six catches for 248 years and four touchdowns. He had a gameopenin­g 75-yard touchdown reception and, later in the game, set a school record with a 99-yard scoring catch.

For his performanc­e during the 2023 season, he earned All-district 4-3A First Team Offense honors both as a wide receiver and punter. He made the All-district 4-3A First Team in 2022 and 2021 as utility and wide receiver respective­ly.

Perkins is a multi-sport high school athlete, who has had great success in track and field. He is a three time UIL Region I qualifier, and an instrument­al member of the 4x200 team, which set a school record time of 1:30.28 in 2022

Perkins will be the third Coahoma Bulldog football player to join the Mcpherson team. CHS senior Reagan Chapman signed with the Kansas school in January, and 2020 CHS alum Brysen Kerby is a current member. Mcpherson College is in the National Associatio­n of Intercolle­giate Athletics (NAIA), Division II and plays in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC)
