Country Classical meets
The Big Spring Municipal Auditorium welcomed back the Big Spring Symphony and Orchestra, on Saturday evening. Guest Conductor Fagner Rocha and Big Spring’s own Jody Nix and the Texas Cowboys brought the two worlds together for a unique experience.
“It was a one of a kind magical night of incredible music. To quote our friend Jody Nix, ‘Classical met Country’,”
Natalie Permenter, Big Spring Symphony Publicist, said. “We so appreciate the great turnout on such a cold night, but we were blessed to be warm in our treasured venue, the Big Spring Municipal Auditorium.”
Dr. Rocha is originally from Brazil and serves as an Assistant Professor of Music at Angelo State University. He teaches violin and is director of the ASU Symphony Orchestra. He also serves as concertmaster for the BSSO, Ballet San Angelo and San Angelo Symphony Orchestra.
The BSSO and Jody Nix are the first to grace the stage in the auditorium since the damage from the February 2021 winter storm caused it to be closed for repairs. The show was two hours of the Jody Nix sound mixed with a little bit of classical style.
“We sure appreciate the City of Big Spring for all their efforts to get the venue repaired, so we can keep enjoying great live events like this one tonight,” she said. “Jody and the Texas Cowboys gave us a great show and so did our very talented guest conductor, Dr. Fagner Magrinelli Rocha.”
For those who were unable to attend the performance, a live broadcast from 106.3 was made and a replay will allow for a review of the performance. A special photo album created by the Forsan Journalism students features special photos capturing the evening.
