Fire billing ordinance, interlocal coopertaion agreement approved by City Council

-

A fire billining ordinance and a interlocal cooperation agreement with South Plains Association of Government were approved During Tuesday night's City Council meeting.

The fire billing ordinance was approved so that the city can pursue an additional stream of revenue through the Fire Department. This will establish new and additional fees for rescues, fire investigations, water and back country incidents, and fires outside of the city limits.

The interlocal cooperation agreement with South Plains Association

of Government (SPAG) was approved for the Downtown Revitalization Program. The approval now allows SPAG to apply for a $500,000 grant that could be used for a variety of things that could include demolition, sidewalks, lighting, water and sewer. The City's cost of participation in this agreement is $17,500.

City Council had also announced that current District 2 Councilwoman, Diane Yanez, was unopposed for the elected position. Being that Yanez was unopposed, she was deemed elected to office and will serve her new term from May 2024 to May 2027. This marks Yanez's second term on City Council

Other items that City Council members approved included the first reading to amend the budget in order to add a position to the sports complex staff with a vote of 4-3, with Councilmembers Cody Hughes, District 3, Gloria Mcdonald, District 4, and Mayor Robert Moore voting against.

City Council also approved the painting of a mural that is to be painted by Big Spring Little League and the Big Spring High School Art Club. The mural will be displayed on the concession stand at the Roy Anderson Sports Complex.
