Big Spring beats out Loboes in District 5-4A action

Lady Steers fall to Levelland 12-1 in five inning

The Big Spring Steers baseball team improved to 2-0 in the District 5-4A baseball standings after shutting out Levelland 10-0 on Thursday.

The Steers led 3-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning before putting up six more runs to end the game with a 10-run rule win over the Loboes. Big Spring's Samuel Wood and Eric Aguilar led the Steers offense at the plate.

Both Wood and Aguilar went 3-for-4 at the plate with both also recording a double each in the game. Wood had one run scored and two RBI'S, while Aguilar finished with with three RBI'S.

Marcos Paredez pitched the win on the mound for the Steers going all six innings. Paredez finished the game surrenderi­ng just four hits for zero runs, while only walking two batters and struck out six at the plate.

Big Spring (10-10-1, 2-0) will play again on Tuesday as the travel to Lubbock to take on Estacado in continued District 5-4A action. Varsity is set to play at 7 p.m.

On the girls side, the Lady Steers dropped it's third district game to Levelland Thursday afternoon at Lady Steer Park. The Lady Loboes bat's in the fourth and fifth proved to be the difference maker as they scored a combined 10 runs over the two innings to beat Big Spring 12-1 in a run-rule win.

The Lady Steers got on the board first in the first inning thanks to senior Cloe Viasana who blasted a single home run to left field. Viasana's homer would be the Lady Steers only offensive spark as the Lady Loboes were able to contain Big Spring for the remainder of the game.

Viasna went 1-for-2 at the plate finishing with an RBI to go along with her single home run. Big Spring's Alexa Ontiveros took the loss in the circle pitching all five innings. Ontiveros surrendere­d 11 hits for 12 runs while walking four and striking out one at the plate.

Big Spring (8-11, 1-3) will travel to Estacado Tuesday to take on the Lady Matadors in continued District 5-4A softball action. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
