Bulldogett­es take District Match in three sets

It took a while for the Coahoma Bulldogett­es to warm up, but once they did t was full steam ahead as Coahoma defeated the Colorado City Lady Wolves 2523, 25-13, 25-13 Saturday afternoon at Bulldog Gym.

In doing so Coahoma recorded their first district win in two tries and Colorado City's league mark falls to 1-2.

Coahoma battled back into the game as hitters Kirah Kimball and Mckynlee Overton started to take control thanks to the setting of Zoie Joslin the lead was cut Coahoma finally tied the game at 17-17 with three Joslin service points. Coahoma shed its lead to 24-20 and then Colorado City got to within 24-23 via two big blocks by Evyn Alvarez.

Coahoma ended the game when Joslin set Julia Cox for a kill on the final point of the game. In fact Cox who had some timely kills throughout the game, also ended game two with a kill shot and ended game three with a service point.

Coahoma coach Jamie Bonner said her team's opening act was not pleasing. "At the first our set and serve was bad," she said. "We came into the game expecting to win. We hustled after every ball, played physical and executed."

The catalyst for the execution was Joslin. Only a freshman, she directed the Coahoma attack with her good sets "We play a 5-1 (offense) and she is our setter. She's made a great adjustment from the eighth grade last year to the varsity this year. The game is so much faster in high school,: Bonner said.

Games two and three were no contest as Coahoma continued to pound away at the Lady Wolves' defense. Caitlyn Corley go into the action and Colorado City had no answer.

Kimball and Corley led Coahoma with eight blocks apiece while Overton had seven kills. Kimball led Coahoma with six blocks. "When we et a good pass and a good serve we're all right," Bonner said. "I told them just to play our game and we'll control the tempo."

Coahoma, 9-11 for the season will be action today in Coleman at 6:30 p.m. Colorado City will play in Jim Ned Saturday at 12 noon.
