The Steer football team took part in the first scrimmage last week against Levelland and performed well, according to McWilliams. This coming week will be the first time the Steers will be taking the field for the long awaited, and uncertain football season.

“I think the community can look forward to an outstanding football season; there is a new sense of confidence with our young men in the fact they know how hard they are working, and they also know they are accountable to each other in everything they do, on and off the field,” he said. “I feel like Steer fans will be proud of the team that hits the field for our great community this Friday at 7 p.m.”

McWilliams continued, “I honestly believe this was a great “shot in the arm” for our community, as it actually gave everyone the chance to come out and not only enjoy each other’s company, but to also pay tribute to our kids that go the extra mile in representing our high school. It brought a sense of normalcy to our community and our kids, plus it showed that we are all united in the belief that we will indeed get through this crisis and that much brighter days are on the horizon. It was great to see so many coaches, teachers, parents, and community members wearing their black and gold proudly, and completely united in our support of the Lady Steer and Steers.”

According to McWilliams a pep rally will take place this Friday, but details are still being worked out at this time. In order to allow for social distancing, the pep rally will take place outside, but final details are still being completed.

“Steer Nation is on the rise, and our kids have had a great four days of school to this point,” McWilliams said.
