H-E-B Woman of Distinction Award presented to local employee Kenda Jones for 2020
Recognizing those who make an impact in their communities is important. H-E-B understands the importance of those recognitions and celebrates those throughout the company who continuously invest into the places they live. This year, a local Big Spring employee – Kenda Jones - was recognized with the Women of Distinction award.
Women of Distinction is an award that is given to one woman throughout the H-E-B family in each of the store locations. The award began as a way to honor the company's founder Florence Butt. “It was important to her to make sure people in her community were taken care of and helped in their time of need,” Kenda Jones, H-E-B recipient of the Women of Distinction Award for 2020, said.
This award is chosen by peers in the store who nominate someone who demonstrates that same quality in their own communities.
“It is an honor to be nominated and to be chosen,” Jones said.
Jones has been with H-E-B for 24 years and considers herself fortunate to be able to volunteer and help in so many different ways throughout the community.
“I would tell others that it's important to give back to a community that gives so much to us,” she said. “I would encourage them to help those in need as much as possible and to help by using the many resources we have available to us.”
She continued, “Our community is a great place to live and it's a beautiful thing to be a part of something bigger than myself.”
As the store's administrative assistant, Jones finds motivation through focusing on the progress that is being made inside the store and throughout the community. Whether her day includes offer support to the partners inside the store or taking part in an opportunity to serve the community, the positive is what she strives to the keep at the forefront.
