Howard Lady Hawks’ basketball adds Weatherford transfer Sumaiyah Abdur-Rahim to 2020 recruiting class

Earlier this month, the Howard Lady Hawks added one more recruit to their roster for the upcoming shortened 2020-21 season. The season is slated to begin in January and the addition of an experienced junior college player is a tremendous lateoffseason addition by Head Coach Earl Diddle and his Assistant Coach Meesha Wade.
Sumaiyah Abdur-Rahim is an upcoming sophomore guard from Mansfield who played her high school ball at Lake Ridge High School. She was a member of the Weatherford Lady Coyotes in the 2019-20 season but was buried on the depth chart and averaged just over two minutes on the court per game (2.3).
Even in her limited time on the court, Abdur-Rahim was able to average 6.9 points per game while shooting 33.2% from the floor. She was not very successful from beyond the arc (23.4%), but she may be able to improve on and

By her stat-line, Abdur-Rahim appears to be a pass-first point guard that has the ability to facilitate and open up opportunities for her teammates on the floor to score. She averaged just over two assists per game (2.1) coming off of the bench last year and was also a pest on the defensive side of tha ball. Diddle loves his defense and Abdur-Rahim's ability to swipe the ball away from the opponent was surely one of the reasons he decided to recruit her.
