Coahoma had a tough time against district rival Idalou last Friday night when they took a trip north to take on the Wildcats. The Bulldogs were outscored 31-8 in the first half and were never able to truly get themselves back within striking distance.

On the first drive of the game, the Wildcats fumbled and Coahoma recovered to take the ball back the other way. Coahoma quarterback Kolt Redden handed the ball off to Billy Bailey who throws a long pass on a trick play to Tony Hagins. Hagins is tackled inside the 10-yard line and the Bulldogs were in position to score. Running back Brysen Kerby ran it in from seven yards out and the Bulldogs took an 8-0 lead with 7:06 left in the opening quarter.

Idalou then scored 31 straight unanswered points to head into halftime. The first two scores were a 5-yard rush and a 50yard rush by running back Ryan Lozano that put the Wildcats up 14-8. Idalou quarterback Jared Jack then ran it in from 15 yards out to give his team a 21-8 lead heading into the second quarter.

The Bulldogs were struggling to put anything together on offense and it did not help when an interception close to their own end zone was returned by Idalou’s Jose Marmolejo five yards into the end zone. The Wildcats were able to kick a field goal before the end of the first half courtesy of Mark Phillips and went into the break holding a 31-8 lead.

Coahoma headed into the second half with a plan to feed Kerby the ball. On their first drive, they steadily moved it down the field with a consistent barrage of Kerby runs up the gut. The drive was then capped off when Redden found tight end Colin Daniels for a 21-yard touchdown pass. The Bulldogs converted the two-point conversion and trailed the Wildcats 31-16.

Idalou responded with Jack taking a designed run 51 yards to the house for another Wildcat touchdown. The extra point was good and Idalou led by a score of 38-16.

The Bulldogs answered right back. This time, it was a long, 82-yard strike from Redden to wide receiver Sean Striegler for a touchdown to make the score 38-22.

Idalou went on to cause a safety and score the last 30 points of the contest. Jack added a 1-yard touchdown rush to his total on the night and his teammates William Wall (two yards), Kelly Koch (16 yards), and Steven Luna (79 yards), added the remaining touchdowns for the Wildcats en route to their 68-22 win.
