Spare a thought for local charities:
The local non-profit food bank in Big Spring, Isaiah
58, has a mission to feed the needy and provide for the less fortunate. 24 years ago, Isaiah 58 was created in order to eliminate hunger within Howard County. The organization has since become a foundation for the many lives that are here seeking help.
“Right now, we see such a need, and we just pray that we get that help. We just want to bless the community and have everybody be proud of Isaiah 58 and want to be a part of Isaiah 58,” President of Isaiah 58 Nancy Stinson said.
Isaiah 58 provides food donations every Tuesday from 9 – 11 a.m. to all Big Spring residents. Food basket donations include fresh meat, produce, and other various supplemental food provided to Isaiah 58 from the West Texas Food Bank. Each donation is free of charge and given through a drive-thru style distribution located at 809 Scurry Street.
“We are hoping as well as praying like most everyone else that the new year brings much better than this year,” Stinson said. “We are also in hopes that we can help more people with food.”
Early last year, Isaiah 58 was closed for an extended amount of time due to the pandemic’s uncertainty, but has since been opened providing food and household items for the less fortunate. However, Isaiah 58 is still seeking volunteers to help with distribution. According to Stinson, their current distribution time and date is due to a low number of volunteers willing to continue their mission.
