Ballot placement determined for Special Election Lending a helping hand
As residents and the City of Big Spring gear up for the first Large Item pick up for 2021, one local organization – ALSA Car Club - along with City Council District 1 Representative Nick Ornelas are teaming up to ensure District 1 residents wanting to take advantage of the pick up program can do so.
“My top priority is to clean up my district, and we have a lot of elderly residents who need the help. This is one way to show my constituents we are here to help in any way we can,” Nick Ornelas, District 1 Representative, said. “The ALSA team asked me to let them know if I ever needed anything and this is a great opportunity to collaborate and give back to the community.”
The large item pick up for District 1 is scheduled for Jan. 20 and all items will need to be placed on the curb by 7 a.m. that day. Those wanting to take part in the program will need to call and schedule pick up by the end of day on Jan. 19. There is no cost to take part in the pick up program or to receive help with getting your items to the curb. When calling to schedule a pick up, residents will be asked if they are 60 and over and are in need of assitance. For those who are in need of assitance their contact information will be obtained and then shared with those who will be helping to get the items to the curb.
“Everything we are facing now, during this pandemic makes it even more important that we come together and help one another,” Ornelas said.
He continued, “Random acts of kindness have a powerful ripple effect; so, let's be a helping hand and help out however we can.”
To schedule a large item pick up, District 1 residents will need to call the Public Works Office at 432-264-5201 or e-mail nhernandez@mybigspring.com.
