Forsan Buffalo Baseball team kicks off season

- By DUSTIN POPE Herald Sports Writer

The Forsan Buffalos baseball team kicked off their season this past weekend, Mar.4-5, with four tournament games. The Buffs went 1-3 in those games.

The season opener found the Buffalos facing off against the Post Antelopes. They easily took care of business, winning a blowout 16-2.

Sawyer Stallings would take the mound for the Buffs' first game of the year, and the young man did not disappoint. He went four innings, allowing two runs on just two hits on his day of work. The Buffalo bats would be the story of this game. In the top of the second inning, the Buffalos blew the game wide-open scoring eight runs opening an 8 to 0 lead. Post would try to battle back in the bottom of the third when they scored their only two runs of the day. Forsan would not be done, though, as they went on to add one run in the fourth, then a huge seven-run fifth inning, sealing the victory and first win of the season for the Buffs 16 to 2.

Forsan then faced off against the Ballinger Bearcats; unfortunately, this game would not go the Buffalos way as they lost 19 to 2.

In the third game of the tournament, Forsan would play one of their biggest rivals, the Coahoma Bulldogs. This would be a close back-and-forth affair. Coahoma got on the board first, scoring one run in the bottom of the first. Forsan answered right back in the top of the second when they put up two runs to take the lead 2 to 1 after two innings of play. As the third inning kicked off, the Buffalos put two more runs on the board, stretching the lead to 4 to 1. However, Coahoma would not be done as they would answer right back with a run of their own in the bottom of the third, tightening the game right back up 4 to 2. In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Bulldogs put up two runs to tie the game at four apiece. The game stayed tied until the Coahoma Bulldogs came to bat in the bottom of the last inning and scored on a walk-off victory, handing the Buffs a heartbreaking loss 4 to 5.

In the final game for the Buffs of this four-game set, they took on the Clyde Bulldogs. This was another close game for the Forsan Buffalos as they dropped the game 6 to 8.

The Buffalos ended tournament play going 1-3 on the weekend. The team showed grit and determination in every single game. As the young season plays out, it's clear that these Buffalos will learn from this and be a force to reckon with for the rest of the season.
