Bulldogett­es fall to Monahans in walkoff single

The Bulldogett­es varsity softball team dropped a non-district game against 4A Lady Loboes after Monahan's Taryn Griner hit a walk-off single on Tuesday. Coahoma lost 6-7.

Coahoma got off to an early lead in the first inning when Jocelyn Mendoza doubled on a line drive to left field, which allowed time for Madison Rodgers to score from second base. Mendoza made her way home soon after, scoring off a sacrifice fly from Brynn Rodgers.

M. Rodgers added one more run in the second, however, Monahans tied the game before going into the third inning. Then both teams went three and out.

During the top of the fourth, the Coahoma's big batters rolled up their sleeves and got to work.

M. Rodgers fired up the Bulldogett­e offense by blasting her fourth home run of the season over the center field wall for two RBIs. A Mendoza RBI single put Coahoma ahead by three runs. Monahans tied the game again at their next turn at bat setting up for the seventh inning showdown.

M. Rodgers came through for the Coahoma offense. She was 2-for-3 at bat earning three runs, two RBIs, a double and a home run. Mendoza was 2-for-4 with one run and two RBIs for the day.

Everett started out in the circle for the Bulldogett­es. She allowed six runs from eight hits, walked one and struck out six. Makayla Calvio came in as relief in the seventh inning. She surrendere­d one run off of two hits, struck out two and walked one.

Next: Coahoma (5-5) will host Snyder on Friday. The varsity game begins at 5 p.m. with the JV game to follow.
