Averette sworn in as new Justice of the Peace, Place 2, Pct. 1
A new Justice of the Peace, Pct. 1 Place 2 has been officially sworn in. At 1 p.m. Friday, Mike Averette was sworn in as the new Justice of the Peace to fill the unexpired term of former JP Pct. 2 Robert Fitzgibbons. The short ceremony took place in the Third Floor Courtroom at the Howard County Courthouse.
“I’ve loved working and serving in the jail, but I needed a new means of which to serve,” Averette said. “The JP’s office is a great place to do that. It’s boots on the ground judge.”
Averette has been employed with the Howard County Sheriff’s Department for 19 years and for the past 15 years has served as the Chief Jailer. Upon
