The Power Of Christ’s Power

-

“And he said unto me, my grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9

Our definition of power is not very strong because we measure power by the rule of that which we can do in our own might. We think that if it cannot be done by the strongest of humans, then, it probably cannot be done. But there is a power which exceeds all of our definitions, expectations, limitations and understanding. That power is the grace of Christ. His grace is powerful because His strength is made perfect in our weakness. The only thing we see in weakness is weakness. But maybe we need to take another look at Christ’s grace because He sees strength and power in our weakness. This weakness of ours is not – oh, today I only prayed 30 minutes instead of 3 hours. No, Jesus is talking about real, bonafide weakness. Jesus is not talking about “white”, small, meniscal, microscopic weaknesses; He is talking about those weaknesses that trouble and torment us. Jesus is talking about those weaknesses which threaten to separate us from the love of God. Jesus is not talking about a rash on our elbows which are easily covered and hidden, He is talking about a big, red birthmark that covers the side of our faces; something which cannot possibly be ignored. When Jesus talks about our weaknesses, He is talking about that which must be covered by His grace. And this is where the power of Christ’s power can be best appreciated.

Christ’s power is a power unto its own, an autonomous island which does not succumb to the whims of religious zealots, refusing to be crammed into the theological boxes of those who would do their best to exile it to the catacombs of pious forgetfulness. This is not a weak power, awaiting the approval of the “strong”, but a powerful power to be enjoyed by all those who are truly weak, and know it.

This power cannot be explained, outlined or theologized, but it can be embraced and enjoyed by the foolish, the weak, the base, the despised and those who are as nothing.

You wanna talk about power? Well, let’s talk about it. Let’s talk about something which is impossible for us, but easy for Christ. But let’s not just talk about it, lets live it, walk in it and enjoy it to its fullest.

Let’s speak it in the light and preach it upon the housetops.
