No Change?

-

When I was a young adult, my grandmother was 85, and had an appendix burst. She was in the hospital in

San Diego, California. My heart almost broke when Mother called and said Grandmother wasn’t expected to live through the week. I told her I’d meet her at the hospital.

A couple of days later I had opportunity to see Grandmother, and as I was standing in her ICU room, I heard in my heart, the Lord speaking to me. “Lay your hand on her and pray for her healing.” I had been taught that we didn’t do that in our doctrine.

So I said, “Not me, Lord!”

And again I heard His still small voice speaking to my heart, “Lay your hand on her and pray for her healing.” So I thought, “Okay?” And I looked around to make sure I was alone, touched her hand, and said, “Lord, heal her.” And just as quickly as I touched her hand, I jerked it back and again looked around to make sure no one had seen me.

I told my mother what I had done and said I thought she would get well. My mother got furious with me and told me she was going to die, that gangrene had already set in and there was no way she could live. I didn’t argue with my godly mother and soon went back to my home in a nearby city.

A month later, Mother called me and told me Grandmother was getting out of the hospital that day. It was all I could do not to say, “I told you so.” But for once I was nice and didn’t say it. Grandmother lived to be 89 years old. I was so excited that I serve a God Who never changes.

Some people think the Old Testament of God’s Word is not for us today. If that’s true, then neither is the New Testament.

It’s all God’s Word. He said things in the Old Testament to get us ready for the New. He doesn’t change His mind. He doesn’t have an opinion, or better idea.
