What a Waste!

-

When we were little girls in my parents’ home in Northern Nevada, our task on Saturday mornings would be to clean our room. Mother would come in at least three times before we would be allowed to go outside to play.

The first time she found the room spic and span—except for under the bed.

(It looked clean to me.)

After we cleaned under the bed, she inspected the closet. After we cleaned the closet where I had stuffed everything from under the bed, I finally got to go outside. What a waste of time when I should have done it right the first time. I’m glad my sister was there to help.

How many times in life do we waste the hours God has given us to use for His glory?

He cleanses us from all unrighteousness at salvation. Then He keeps on cleansing us as we make mistakes and sin against our Holy God. We can’t make a way in our own strength. We must follow God’s plan for salvation. Jesus is the only way to get to Heaven. When we waste our time on our own way, we trample underfoot the blood Jesus shed for us on the Cross.

Mom’s way of cleaning my room was right. She made sure I did it until it was clean.

But I can’t cleanse my own soul. God does that when I ask Jesus to be my Saviour. Then I can say with Job of the Old Testament in God’s Word:

“For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth.”

I shall see God in my flesh. I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold him, for I shall see Him face to face.

I won’t have to clean my room anymore, nor waste time doing it right the third time.
