- By DUSTIN POPE Herald Sports Writer

The Big Spring Steers will look to punch their ticket to the State seven-onseven tournaments starting this Friday, June 11, in Jim Ned. The Steers have been prepping for this chance for a few weeks now. They have competed in a warm-up tournament in which they finished second place and a seven-onseven league, all in hopes to have a great run and qualify for the state tournament.

The State qualifier will take place at Jim Ned's Indian Stadium; this will be an eight-team tournament that includes: Breckenridge, Ponder, Jim Ned, TLCA, Early, Ft. Stockton, Bridgeport, and of course, your very own Big Spring Steers. The field is full of talented teams, and the Steers will have their work cut out for them. The Steers will open up play at 9:45 a.m. taking on the Bridgeport Bulls in their first challenge of the tournament. The Steers' second game of the day will find them taking on a familiar opponent in the Ft. Stockton

Panthers. This game will be at 11:15 a.m. This will be an exciting matchup, as the teams are from the same district and know each other well. The Steers' third game of the day will be against the Early Longhorns, with kickoff set for 12:45 p.m. If the Steers play well enough to advance on to the semi-finals, they will play in those at 1:45 p.m., with the finals to take place after the completion of the Semis. The winner of this tournament will earn a chance to compete at the seven-on-seven State tournament, which will be held June 24-26 at Veterans Park in College Station.

This will be an excellent test for this Steers football team. They have looked good so far, learning all along the way. If they can string together an excellent set of games and play up to their capabilities, they will have a good chance at winning this entire tournament. Jim Ned is a long drive, but if you can, let's get out and support this team and cheer them on to victory.
