Back with a bang: Big Spring Rodeo returns for three-day event full of fun
The Big Spring Rodeo and Cowboy Reunion took place this past weekend. It came back to Big Spring after a one-year hiatus attributed to COVID. The rodeo started last Thursday night and ran through Saturday night. It was a fun three days packed with competitive entertainment for the whole family.
While this was an entertaining event to watch, it was a still work for the Rodeo competitors. This is a sanctioned PRCA event that brought in some of the best Cowboys and Cowgirls in all of Rodeo to Big Spring.
Friday night's action kicked off with the Bareback Riding event. Jake Brown would take first place with an 84-point ride on Sayas Eyes. Second place went to Tyler Johnson, who had an 81.5-point ride. Harry Ash came in third with a 78, and fourth place went to Bodee Lammers with a 76.5-point ride. The riders would have one more night to improve on their score and try to take 1st Place.
Next up was the Steer Wrestling event. Cody Moore took first place with a fast time of 3.9 seconds. Second place would go to Heath Thomas with a time of 4.7 seconds. Cody Harmon came in third with a time of 5.0. There were no other qualified runs.
Saddle Bronc Ridding would be next up, and this was a close event. It was Dean Wadsworth that had an 80.5 point ride on Bobcat to capture the first place spot. Lucas Macza came in at the second spot with a 78.5 point ride. Andrew Counts rounded out the top three in third with a 71.5, and in fourth place was
Kobyn Williams with a 70.
The Tie-Down Roping event took place next. Charlie Gibson would win the event with a swift time of 8.1 seconds. There was a tie for second place between Trevor Hale and Tate Teague with a time of 9.4 seconds. There was likewise a tie for fourth place, as Clay McCuistion and Landon Williams with 15.8 seconds.
Barrel Racing was next up. Ashley Castleberry took first place with a time of 15.49, Lois Ferguson settled in second place with a time of 15.65. Third place went to Katelyn Scott with 15.69, Cadee Williams finished in fourth place with a fine time of 15.71. Finally, Martha Smith rounded out the top five as she finished in fifth with a time of 15.72.
The last event of the night was the Bull Riding event. Only one bull rider had a qualifying score. That rider was Mike Lee, who had an 85 point ride on Final Rainbow.
It was an entertaining night loaded with some good Rodeo action and was just a marvelous time for the entire family. The crowd was great as the stands were packed. It was wonderful to see the rodeo back where it belongs, here in Big Spring.
