Big Spring Steers Head Baseball coach Daniel Carrillo coaches in GWTBCA game

- Herald Sports Writer

The Greater West Texas Baseball Coaches Association had its All-Star game this past Saturday, June 19, in Frenship. This game was for the 4A-6A players from all around the West Texas territory. Players involved in the game are All-Star athletes on their various teams. Big Spring Steers head coach Daniel Carrillo was asked to be an assistant coach for the team.

Carrillo helped coached the Blue team alongside one of his coaching mentors, former Howard Hawks and former Midland Lee baseball coach Brian Roper. Coach Carrillo started his coaching experience under the guidance of Coach Roper at Midland Lee. Coach Brian Roper hung up his cleats after this season. He will go down as one of the most well-respected and winning coaches in the game. Roper notched the 750th win of his career this season. He has lead Midland Lee to five consecutive years of playoff experiences. Including a record of 26-9 this season. Coach Roper is also certainly acquainted with the Big Spring area as he was the head coach for the Howard Hawks for seven years where he posted a 298-119-1 mark. The opportunity for Steers head Coach Carrillo to coach with his mentor one last time was something he will never forget.

It's obvious to see where Coach Carrillo gets his infatuation for the game and coaching style from. When you have one of the most successful coaches of all time as someone to lean on or receive guidance from, it's merely natural for you to have success. Congratulations to Coach Daniel Carrillo for being appointed to represent Big Spring and all the All-Stars in this game, and I look forward to watching what takes place next season.
