Something to think about…

-

Afriend once told me, as a child every time he stepped out the door, his mother would emphatically say, “Remember Jimmy, someone is always watching you!” At the time he thought she had stationed spies around town to watch his every move - the mom spy squad. But, as he grew older, he began to realize what she really meant was that others were watching his example. People are paying attention to the life we live. Someone is always watching you too. Our children, grandchildren, coworkers, peers, and neighbors are all observing our actions.

What kind of example are you setting?

We all learn by example. In school when learning to solve a new problem the textbook would always give several examples to follow.

If we were struggling to understand, often someone would step in and say, “Let me show you how to do it.” The most important lessons we learn are typically caught, not taught. Of course, one of the best ways to learn a new skill is to apprentice with an expert. The same is true in life, we need good examples to follow. The truth is that we all live by example and we live as examples. God understands this and gave us the best example to follow. Paul tells us clearly in Ephesians: “Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” ~ Ephesians 5:1-2

At the heart of it, discipleship is being an apprentice of Jesus. Following Him means learning to do life His way. We all live by example and we live as examples. I’m grateful for all the examples of genuine faith and faithfulness that God placed in my life.

What examples are you following?

What example are you leaving for others to follow?
