James Albert Duff Vassar was called “by Jesus to come see Him” per his 3-year-old great grandson, on Saturday, January 15, 2022. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 19th at 11am at College Baptist Church.

“Duffy”, as he was called, was born on January 10, 1942 to Albert and Mary Vassar in Anson, Texas.

He was a meat cutter by trade and served as a meat market manager for most of his career.

In 1960, Duffy married Nancy McGinnis. Duffy and Nancy were blessed with 3 children, Mark, Melinda, and Mindy.

After retirement he spent his time building and crafting. His hands were always busy. His favorite things were building scenes inside of lightbulbs and wood crafting. He loved sports, and loved attending all of his grandchild­ren's sporting events. He loved all things trains and collected and built a Lionel Train room.

He was a greeter and offering counter at College Baptist Church where he served faithfully.

Duffy is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nancy, son and his wife, Mark & Veronda Vassar of Big Spring; daughter and her husband, Melinda and David McReynolds. He was Papa to 6 grandchild­ren and their spouses. Ryan and Anna Vassar, Kristine and Jeremy Knight, Heather Vassar, Kambri and Mike Martinez, Kylee and Adam Hernandez, Jordan McReynolds, and 14 greatgrand­children. Also, one sister, Sylvia Pruitt and numerous nieces and nephews.

Duffy was preceded in death by his parents, 4 siblings; James, Troyce, Monette, and Reta Jo, and his daughter, Mindy Beth Vassar.

Family request memorials please be made to College Baptist Church, Big Spring, Texas, in lieu of flowers.
