Coahoma’s Guerrero finishes 4th, Wright nabs 5th at Region I track meet

ABILENE — Coahoma's Tristan Guerrero crossed the line in fourth in the 200m dash, and Baylor Wright vaulted 9 feet, 6 inches to capture fifth place in pole vault at the finals of the UIL Region I track and field meet on Saturday.

In the adaptive sports division, Vance Ott earned gold in the 100m Dash, 400m Dash, and shot put. Ott is the defending state champion in both the 100m Dash and 400m Dash.

Overall, the Coahoma High School men's track team placed 24th out of 36 teams, and the women's team finished 24th out of 29 competing schools.

Freshman Jaidyn Vineyard ran a time of 11.11 in the 100m Dash finals. He crossed the finish line in seventh position. The 4x200m and 4x400m relay teams of Guerrero, Brysen Kerby, Austin Perkins, and Billy Bailey placed sixth and seventh respectively with times of 1:30.32, and 3:30.48.

In the field events, senior Ashton Wennik placed eighth in the shot put with a distance of 47-02.5. Junior Christian Everett cleared 34-07.75 in the triple jump to finish in sixth place.

The top two athletes in each event qualified for the UIL state competition set for Thursday through Saturday, May 13-15, 2022, at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.
