• Caregivers Support Group, sponsored by the Area Agency on Aging, meets the second Tuesday of every month at 10:30 a.m. The meetings are held at the Senior Citizens Center located at 100 Whipkey Drive. • Al-anon family group meets at 8 p.m. at 615 Settles.
• DivorceCare is a biblical support group for those facing divorce or separation. Each DVD session features nationally respected experts, such as Christian Counselors and Pastors. Small group discussions and workbook exercises help participants apply the information to their own situations. We cover pertinent issues like: • Will I survive? • How to get out of debt. • How do you know when you are ready for a new relationship? • How to lessen the impact of divorce on your children. • Is reconciliation possible? There is no charge for attendance. 13-week seminars are held two times per year on Tuesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church in Big Spring. Andres “Andy” Alcantar passed away in peace after a lengthy illness, with family by his side, on May 10, 2022.
Andres was born in Big Spring, Texas, on April 12, 1932. Andres met and wed his true love, Carmen Moreno, 65 years ago. Together, they lived with their children a lifetime of love.
Andres is preceded in death by his wife, Carmen, and his parents Andres and Isabel, as well as his brothers, Francisco, Eligio, and Guillermo, and his sisters, Juanita, Margarita, and Guadalupe.
Andy had unyielding love and devotion to his family. An altruistic, elegant, loving, and ideal father, he committed his life to caring for, encouraging, uniting,
and supporting his family.
Andy was a builder of homes, community, and family. Blessed with a strong work ethic, respect and kindness for his fellow man, and appreciation for the plight of others, Andy worked tirelessly to improve the lives of others. A member and strong contributor of the Catholic Church, Andy was loved by his family, friends, and neighbors.
Andy is survived by five sons and their wives, Andres Alcantar III and Yvette, Rey Alcantar and Eve, Adolfo Garza and Dora Elena, Robert Garza and Esther and Gregory Alcantar. He was blessed with five daughters and their husbands, Patricia Lyons and Tim, Sylvia Brown and Darrell, Sandra Erickson and Russell, Mina Benavides and Maria Raye. He is loved by his twentytwo grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in his memory at the Alzheimer's Association.
