Big Spring High School track teams finish third at Nat Sawyer Relays

By PATRICK GONZALES Junior Alexa Mehan also had another strong meet as she finished second in both the 100 and 300 meter hurdles races and a second place finish in the triple jump event with a jump of 29',10”. Mehan ran 17.1 seconds in the 100 meter hurdles and 52.2 seconds in the 300 meter hurdles.

Senior Skylan Rivera finished second in the girls 1600 meters race with a time of 6:29.8. Freshman Kandace Gonzales also competed in the 1600 meters as she finished third overall with a time of 6:30.4. Gonzales also competed in the 3200 meters where she finished second overall with a personal best of 14 minutes and 11.3 seconds.

The Lady Steers also competed in both the 4x200 and 4x400 meter relays. The Lady Steers finished third in the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:55.1 and finished second in the 4x400 meter relay with a time 4:30.6.

Both the Steers and Lady Steers track teams competed in San Angelo last Friday in the Nat Sawyer Relays held at Lakview High School.

Both the girls and boys varsity teams finished third overall as a team while the JV girls finished sixth and the JV boys finished third.

Wall High School swept the meet winning all four team divisions. The Lady Steers had several top performanc­es at the meet in both the running and field events. Junior Kyleena Hughes won the varsity girls 200 meters race with a time of 27 seconds.

Freshman Bergan Pinkley also captured gold in the varsity girls 400 meters race with a time of 1:04. Pinkley also competed in the 800 meters race where she finished second overall with a time of 2:29.6 a new personal best.
