Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Christina Barrera of Big Spring. Children: Dr. Barbara Barrera Gonzales (Toby) of Edinburg, Texas, Bruce Barrera (Cherie) of Lufkin, Texas, and Gavin Barrera (Daniela) of Seminole; stepson: Dickie Deleon Jr. of Big Spring; grandchildren: Karen Barrera, Sara Barrera, Analise Gonzales, Gavino Barrera, Gabriela Barrera; great-granddaughter: Rose April; siblings: Ben Barrera (Nina) of Snyder, Texas, Amelia Gray of Colorado City, AB Barrera (Terrie) of South Carolina

Simon was a larger-than-life person with his black cowboy hat...at times a little tilted, with a cigar in hand and always wearing his Ostrich boots. Simon was a Chief Deputy Sheriff, the First Hispanic in the History of Mitchell Country. He set multiple drilling records as a Drilling Foreman for Arco Oil and Gas and Drilling Consultant for Mobil and various companies.

His passion was his love for horses, golfing, and dancing. Simon won belt buckles in Roping and won trophies in golf, and possessed an unparalleled work ethic. His biggest love was the love that he had for his family and he was extremely proud of his children.

Simon Barrera will be dearly missed.

Farewell, my love, and ride high.
