Fatal wrecks on Interstate 20 claims three lives over the weekend

Two separate wrecks involving a single vehicles occurred in Howard County over the weekend resulting in multiple fatalities. Both wrecks were reported to have occurred at approximat­ely the same time but in different areas along Interstate 20 in Howard County.

The first reported wreck involved 29-year old male Zachary Coe from Sweetwater, who was traveling westbound on Interstate 20 in a 2001 Ford F-150 pickup truck near mile marker 195.

According to the preliminar­y report by the Texas Department of Public Safety, Coe had veered off of the roadway causing him to overcorrec­t and resulting in the pickup truck to side skid and roll over.

The preliminar­y report went on to state that Coe was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The report also noted that Coe was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the wreck.

The second wreck occurred near mile marker 175 in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 20. According to the preliminar­y report, the vehicle involved was a 2023 Honda HR-V driven by 58-year old Mark McDaniel of Arlington, TX and also had two other occupants who were identified as 51-year old female Brandi McDaniel, and a 17-year old female minor.

The report went on to state that the vehicle driven by McDaniel was traveling eastbound past mile marker 179 when the vehicle then struck a guardrail in the inside shoulder resulting in the guardrail to enter the vehicle injuring all occupants.

The rear passenger identified as the 17-old female minor, was pronounced dead at the scene while Mrs. McDaniel was transporte­d to Scenic Mountain Medical Center where she would later succumb to injuries.

The crash is still under investigat­ion and no other informatio­n is available at this time.
