Coahoma's Wright, Lewis punch tickets to State track meet

ABILENE, TX – Coahoma junior Baylor Wright and sophomore Bree Lewis are headed to Austin next week after punching their tickets to the UIL State Track and Field meet this past weekend at the UIL Class 3A Region I meet in Abilene.

Both Wright and Lewis were crowned regional champions in their respective events. Wright won the Class 3A girl's pole vault event clearing 11'-00'' which was six inches better than second place Reese Jenkins from Dalhart who cleared 10'-06''.

Lewis won the Class 3A girls shot put event throwing 41'-1.75'' and in the process shattered her own school record as well. Lewis also competed in the discuss throw where she finished sixth overall with a throw of 116'-02''.

Lewis will enter the state meet as the favorite to win the title.

Sophomore Noel Loya competed in the Class 3A boys 800 meter run where he finished 13th overall running a new personal best of 2:06.82.

The UIL State Track meet will begin next Thursday, May 2nd and will be held at Mike A. Myers Stadium at the University of Texas of Austin. The Class 3A girls pole vault event is set for a 11 a.m. start and shot put event is set for a 12:30 p.m. start.
