West Texas Community Mediation Center to bring “A Taste of Italy” to Big Spring

- SPECIAL TO THE HERALD

The West Texas Community Mediation Center (WTXCMC) will host their 2nd annual gala and awards banquet, which will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024 from 7:00-9:00pm. This year's theme is “That's Amore'.” The décor and backdrops will make you feel as though you have been transported to Italy! Our event will feature the announcement of our “Grand Raffle” prize drawing, door prizes, Italian cuisine, and a silent auction to benefit the United Way of Big Spring, Howard County. You will find this venue to be an excellent opportunity to network and meet other members of the community. There will be plenty of photo opportunities as well! We have an exciting night planned this year, and we hope to include you!

WTXCMC will thank and recognize their sponsors for this event and our Legacy Partners: Delek US, City of Big Spring, Walmart, H-E-B, Home Depot, Dora Roberts Foundation, Family Faith Center and Solomon's Way ADR Services that have continued to support them to reach their goal of providing low to no cost family-based and conflict management services to the Big Spring, Howard County, and surrounding communities.

“The awards and recognition are just a token of appreciation, and do not compare to the community impact they are bestowing”, says Danette Ross Watson, Executive Director of WTXCMC.

They will also include their Community Partners in a social media blitz while informing the public about various programs and services being offered at WTXCMC such as:

• Youth Empowerment Sessions (YES) Program offering tutoring, mentoring and life skills services to youth 8-18 years of age.

• Family Friend Program supports families and parents in crisis and conflict by offering supervised visitation, counseling,

parenting support group/classes, and family/domestic violence and anger management classes.

• School mediation initiative sponsored in part by the Dora Roberts Foundation in cooperation with the Municipal Court of Big Spring, Howard County, “Resolving Barriers to School Attendance” which will provide classes on remedial education of truancy issues and connect families with resources to assist in the prevention of future attendance issues. These sessions will provide facilitation, mediation and family-based services to assist schools, parents, and students with finding solutions to decrease in-school suspensions, attendance and truancy issues, and resolution to in-school conflicts with peers and teachers.

“We could not do what we do without the generous donations of our Legacy and Community Partners, Sponsors, volunteers, and donors of our efforts. Every donation and contributions are needed and appreciated,” said Danette. “We are so grateful that they believe in our mission/vision and care about our community's preservation and family resiliency!”

You may donate door prizes or items for the silent auction and purchase tickets for the banquet or raffle at the WTXCMC office. The Big Spring Area Chamber of Commerce office also has tickets for sale.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available and volunteers are still needed for this event! Contact WTXCMC at 432-517-4070 for more information!
