33-year old Midland man killed in fiery crash

MIDLAND, TX – A 33-year old Midland man was killed in a fiery crash, while four others were left injured Monday afternoon according to a news release by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The deceased man was identified as Lorenzo Najera.

The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that at approximat­ely 6:30 p.m. Monday, a crash occurred involving three vehicles on Farm Market Road 1788 and County Road 140. The news release went on to state that the Najera was traveling southbound on Farm Market Road 1788 with three other passengers a 32-year old woman from Midland and two minor children ages ten and three.

The investigat­ion revealed that Najera attempted to pass a Peterbilt tractor-truck towing a trailer, that was also traveling southbound in front of Najera. However, it was reported that Najera failed to pass to the right safely resulting in Najera to hit the tractor-truck on it's front right-side which also caused him to lose control of the vehicle and drive into oncoming traffic.

It was reported that after losing control and driving into oncoming traffic, Najera then crashed into a Chevrolet pickup truck causing Najera's vehicle to get thrown off the roadway to the east, where it then caught fire.

Najera was pronounced dead at the scene but the Midland County Death Investigat­or. It was reported that the woman and two children in the vehicle with Najera were transporte­d to Midland Memorial Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries. The male driver of the Chevrolet pickup truck was also transporte­d to Midland Memorial where he was treated for minor injuries as well.

The driver of the Peterbilt tractor-truck did not sustain any injuries from the incident.

The Texas Department of Public Safety has stated that the crash remains under investigat­ion and that no further informatio­n is available at this time.
