San Marcos teen killed in Reeves County rollover crash

REEVES COUNTY, TX – An 18-year old woman from San Marcos was killed and another left injured following a rollover crash that occurred early Wednesday morning in Reeves County.

According to the press release, DPS troopers responded to a single vehicle crash on Interstate 10 near mile marker 193 at around 6:45 a.m. Wednesday. When troopers arrived they found 18year old Brandy Marie Martinez, behind the wheel of a 2002 Ford Explorer. The report stated that Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger identified as 19-year old Nathan Steven Zinn also from San Marcos, was also in the vehicle with Martinez at the time of the incident. Zinn was transporte­d to the University Medical Center of El Paso for treatment of injuries from the crash. At the time of this report Zinn was listed as in stable condition.

The preliminar­y investigat­ion revealed that Martinez was traveling westbound on Interstate 10 near mile marker 193 when for unknown reasons veered onto the improved shoulder of the curved portion of the roadway.

Martinez overcorrec­ted to the right causing her vehicle to roll over several times before coming to a stop. The investigat­ion revealed that both Martinez and Zinn were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Per the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash remains under investigat­ion and no further informatio­n is available at this time.
