THE BUTEO BUNCH

Red-tailed hawks, like this one, are the most common members of the buteo group. These birds of prey are often seen perched along roadsides or soaring with barely a flap of their wings. Raptors in the buteo family have chunky builds, broad wings and short wide tails. Other members of the buteo clan include broadwinged, red-shouldered and rough-legged hawks.
