I have a 40-gallon aquarium and quite a few succulents that I would like to overwinter outside. Is it possible to use the aquarium as an outdoor terrarium?

Melinda: I am impressed with your creative thinking! Unfortunately, the small volume of the aquarium could not be adequately heated and ventilated to control temperature and humidity. The plants would either freeze or rot in the confines of an aquarium turned mini winter greenhouse. A different way to keep your succulents growing, albeit indoors, is grow lights. There are many new indoor lighting setups that are attractive enough to be part of your living space while providing your succulents the light they need.
