A lone scrubjay showed up
on my apartment patio a while back, so I started putting out unshelled, salt-free peanuts. We soon developed a ritual where I put out peanuts and it would fly in close to get them. When fall turned to winter, I didn’t see my friend for a while, but it eventually returned for peanuts. Watching this jay and all the other birds that show up on my little patio has made me realize how very smart birds are.
