I frequent the trails at

Proud Lake State Park in Michigan, and one winter day I saw a large bird fly into a tree. I initially thought it was a hawk, only to be stunned when I got closer and saw it was a barred owl. It was my first experience with one of these owls, though since then I’ve encountered many at the park.
