For the first time we had four male grosbeaks at our feeder. How do we keep them coming back?

- Laura Lisovich BELLE VERNON, PENNSYLVANIA

Kenn and Kimberly: A highlight of spring all over the East is the chance to see rose-breasted grosbeaks at feeders. During migration they stop over in practically any habitat, so in spring or fall keep your feeders filled with sunflower seeds to attract them. For their summer nesting season, however, they seek out areas with many mature trees, including forests and well-wooded suburbs and parks. Grosbeaks aren’t likely to stay more than a few days in a spot without good forest cover, but you could make a long-term effort to attract them by planting more trees.
