I GOT A PHONE CALL

from my former college roommate, who told me that three fledgling eastern screech-owls were in his backyard. I made the 80-mile trip, hoping they would still be there. Walking around back, we were surprised and pleased to see that a fourth owlet had joined them. You can see their curiosity and amusement as we snapped pictures from 50 feet away.
