See which photos made the finals!

The Birds & Blooms Backyard Photo Contest received more than 9,000 extraordinary entries this year, and our team narrowed it down to four finalists in each category: birds, blooms and butterflies. Now it’s your turn! Vote for your favorites at birdsandblooms.com/contests by Nov. 30.

Last year’s Backyard Photo Contest winner shares the story behind his stunning shot.

With my Nikon D4S, I captured this image of a hungry juvenile and adult eastern bluebird in my backyard. The adults were feeding when the young one loudly reminded them it could not fend for itself yet. As young bluebirds approach adulthood, the speckled pattern on their breast disappears and becomes a warm red-brown. I love the wing placement on the adult in this image. And you can’t beat the interaction between the two birds.
