Highbush blueberry

Vaccinium corymbosum, Zones 5 to 10 Bell-shaped blooms grow in clusters on this native shrub. Most varieties thrive best in acidic soil. Gardeners in Zones 9 and 10 should select varieties with low chill requiremen­ts. Attracts: Light needs: Full sun or part shade.

Size: 5 to 8 feet high.

Grown for: Late spring blooms and flavorful summer berries. Foliage: Green leaves turn red and orange in autumn. Cultivars to try: Atlantic grows well as a hedge; Blueray’s red stems provide winter interest.
