Three must-see ac­tiv­i­ties at Long­wood Gar­dens.

1 Chase away the win­ter chill in­side the 4-acre con­ser­va­tory where a 12-foot-high arch­way of or­chids wel­comes you to the an­nual Orchid Ex­trav­a­ganza event (this year it’s Jan. 19-March 24, 2019). Long­wood Gar­dens’ orchid col­lec­tion in­cludes 6,000 plants.

2 Dur­ing the hol­i­day sea­son, the for­mer es­tate of Pierre S. du Pont, an Amer­i­can in­dus­tri­al­ist, twin­kles with 500,000 lights and a plethora of poin­set­tias. The an­nual ex­hibit, aptly called A Long­wood Christ­mas, runs Nov. 22-Jan. 6, 2019.

3 Come spring, sip a craft brew in the Beer Gar­den and learn about the botany of beer. Long­wood Gar­dens col­lab­o­rates with Vic­tory Brew­ing Co. to grow in­gre­di­ents, such as hops, cher­ries, peaches and straw­ber­ries, used in the sea­sonal brew­ing process.
