Megan Randolph

IN 2019, MEGAN Randolph rose to a pinnacle of excellence among teachers when she became one of only three recipients of the Apple Distinguished Educator awards in Arizona.

Apple created the honors program in 1995 to recognize educators in grades kindergarten through 12th who use Apple technology to improve teaching and learning.

Randolph said it was her most memorable professional moment.

Today she teaches math and the STEM – Science, Technology Engineering Art and Math – curriculum at the Crane Elementary School District’s Centennial Middle School.

Besides all that, she is the school’s athletic director and technology specialist. The latter role, she said, allows her “to work with our teachers in being the go-between for technology issues before we involve our district IT department, as well as plan professional development for our teachers in how to integrate the technology into their classrooms, albeit online for now.”

Previously a teacher’s aide and tutor in Pennsylvania while going to school, Randolph started teaching in Yuma in 2010. She is also the immediate past president for a Yuma chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, a sorority for current and retired teachers, and is a founding board member for Yuma Educators Summit.

“Being a teacher is like being a forest ranger – you get to plant the knowledge and know that your work will far outlive you. I love that we get to not only inform our students about our content, but also shape their social and emotional well-being.”

Randolph’s goal is to become a technology integration specialist or instructional coach with an emphasis in technology. That role, she said, will help her show other teachers how technology in education can better prepare young minds “for a future we cannot determine yet.”
