Aziza Shuler

-

FOR THE PAST several years, Aziza Shuler has been a daily part of the lives of Yuma-area residents as a journalist who brings them the news about the events that affect their lives.

“Every day I strive to find and tell stories that matter to our community,” the multimedia journalist for KYMA/FOX9 said. “That includes seeking accurate, honest and relevant information to the people who live here.”

Shuler received an affirmation of her commitment to her profession in 2019 after having just served as emcee for the City of Yuma’s Back to School Rodeo at the Yuma Civic Center.

“As I was making my way out, a mother approached me with her little daughter and said she watches me every night and admires me. That moment reaffirmed to me that I’m doing something that’s bigger than my own personal goals.”

Shuler, who has been working in journalism for nearly four years, enterprises, shoots, writes and edits stories daily in Yuma.

Before coming here, she interned for CBS Radio, freelanced for the NBA G League, and served as an apprentice and executive assistant to ESPN anchor Cari Champion in Los Angeles. She also competed in 2015 in the Miss California USA pageant as the Miss Brentwood titleholder.

“For me, the root of journalism is trust and humanity. Embracing the humanity of the stories we tell is important to me now more than ever. I love meeting new people and learning the little details that make us all similar. But also breaking down the fears of the unknown that allow us to cherish and appreciate our differences as humans.”
