MISTER-COMFORT MARINECOOL
If you’ve ever experienced a misting system on a stifling summer day, you know the power of evaporative cooling. A fine water mist is introduced into warm air, and as it evaporates, the air is cooled. It’s not magic, just science. Mister-Comfort’s MarineCool promises to bring that same science to boats in a compact, efficient package that manufacturers are rapidly embracing.
MarineCool tweaks the conventional misting formula by eliminating the need for a power-hungry compressor. Water is borrowed from an existing onboard tank or supplied via the system’s own 48-ounce reservoir. It’s then delivered through a fine spray head backed with air driven by a 12-volt, 252 cfm turbo fan. On my Sea Pro 248 center-console test boat, the compact system (consisting of a 14-by-3-by-5.5-inch fan/misting unit, 4-inch ductwork and, if needed, a 7.5-by-7.5-inch water reservoir) fit neatly within a small portion of the center-console interior. The air/mist combo was delivered via a pair of 4-inch directional nozzles on the dash.
Mister-Comfort promises an up to 20-degree difference in ambient temperature. I could only verify that claim with a subjective observation—compared to the surrounding heat, things felt great under the Sea Pro’s hardtop. A control panel allows fine-tuning both air delivery and water vapor. Dial up the mist level for more of a wet feel against the skin, or balance the two to feel dry and comfortable.
