BABY ON BOARD
Could you imagine being on your boat this summer and turning your head to say to the crew, “Look at that baby water-ski!” But that’s exactly what you would have seen had you been on Lake Powell over the summer, when little Rich Casey Humpherys went water-skiing shortly after his 6-month birthday. In the process, he set the world record for the youngest water-skier ever, at age 6 months and 4 days old.
Little Rich took to the water on a homemade waterskiing contraption built by his father to be comfortable, safe and stable. How’d he do it?
“Rich is very physically advanced for his age,” says his dad, Casey Humpherys. “He was able to stand on his own at 3 months.” Still, it took a lot of planning and training on dry land to make sure little Rich was able to water-ski safely and enjoy himself during his record run. Thankfully, both of his parents are competition water-skiers who spend a lot of time on the water, so he had good teachers.
