DRILLING TIP
Q:
I want to add spring-line cleats to my new-to-me but old Aquasport. Any tips for drilling in fiberglass? Mike Bailey St. Augustine, Florida
A:
To prevent the gelcoat from chipping, place masking tape over the area to be drilled and use a sharp, new bit. For holes larger than ⅛-inch-diameter, begin with a smaller bit and work your way up in size. You can deburr (remove ragged edges) from a drilled hole by using the next-size-up drill bit and simply turning it by hand a couple of times in the hole.
Measure twice, drill once!
