What happens when one of the most luxuriously versatile boats on the water combines with arguably the most innovative new marine propulsion system going? You get a Sea Ray Sundancer 370 Outboard powered by twin Mercury Marine V-12 600 outboards. This is coming in early 2022.
Editor-in-Chief Kevin Falvey originally tested this boat with triple 300 Verado outboards, and the performance data he gathered is compiled for you in the chart (far right). We’ll get back aboard a Sundancer 370 Outboard for a run with the V-12s so you can compare. Just be advised that there is a lot more to Mercury’s V-12 600 outboards than just mega-power.
Mercury’s V-12 600 outboard is fundamentally changing the experience of being aboard the boats it powers. For one thing, it’s a poster child for Merc’s noise vibration harshness (NVH) program, being the quietest and most vibration-free engine we have run aboard a boat this size. For another, it spins a dual-prop, contra-rotating propset that, coupled with its two-speed transmission, delivers confidence-inspiring thrust and control, plus exciting performance—even with a big crowd aboard. The powerheads don’t turn, which allows the gear cases to rotate more than those of other outboards. This gives the proprietary JPO joystick system better maneuverability while docking. You can learn more about this engine on our website and YouTube channel but, in short, the V-12 600 delivers a luxury propulsion experience for luxury boats. And make no mistake, the Sundancer 370 Outboard is a luxury boat.
Check out the boat’s designer style.
Belowdecks, the cabin sleeps four, and the space is flooded with sun in the daytime and suffused in indirect lighting at night. On deck, notice the diamond pattern on the speaker grilles and upholstery. The mix of color and texture throughout provides an upscale atmosphere. Multiple gathering areas in the bow, near the helm, in the aft cockpit and on the swim platform make it a crowd-pleasing entertainer.
Sea Ray’s Sundancer 370 Outboard powered by Mercury V-12 600s is a mustsee boat. Look for it coming soon.
