Jeanneau builds an incredible number of amenities and accommodations into its boats, using the space on board so well, they seem much larger than the length and beam dimensions suggest.

Take the new Leader 7.5 Series 3, a 24-foot runabout with a closed deck and an open cockpit. Before the key is turned in the ignition, one is impressed by the sleek shape of the vessel, the wide-open space in the cockpit, and the sun pad on the bow. Where most boatbuilders would open that area to seating, Jeanneau chose to close it to allow a cozy cabin belowdecks. The cabin features a double V-berth for overnighting, a flushing porcelain head, a freshwater sink and space for an optional refrigerator. That’s all possible because the designers kept the topside sun pad level without encroaching on the space below. Access to the bow is via a wider portside walkway or a narrow starboard passage. Both ease in docking, allowing crew to move fore and aft to manage lines.

A double-wide leaning post behind the helm offers entry and exit from port or starboard—a clever design feature adding to the spacious feel. Aft in the cockpit, a pair of foldout lounges in either gunwale can meet transom cushions to form forward-facing lounges.

The nonskid fiberglass cockpit sole can be optionally covered with MarineMat flooring with a teak and holly look. It’s comfortable on the feet, cool to the touch in hot sun, and adds to the yachty look of the boat.

While the Leader 7.5 is too new for Boating’s test team to board (outside of the recent Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show exhibit), our experience with other Jeanneau vessels tells us it will bring sport acceleration and satisfying top speed. That’s because the hull is built strong but light, optimizing the outboard power. All the Jeanneau boats we’ve tested have proven fun to drive, and solid and comfortable in chop, with optimal visibility.

The Leader 7.5 is ideally powered with a Yamaha V-6 300 hp outboard. Yamaha Command Link gauges, power steering, and electronic throttle and shift are standard, while the Helm Master EX with joystick is optional.
