If Starcraft’s SVX 210 IO looks familiar, it’s because a similar boat already resides in the manufacturer’s lineup. The difference here is that the boat is now available with sterndrive power rather than the previous outboard-only option, meaning owners can enjoy a full, unencumbered swim platform and a clear view aft. That makes the SVX 210 IO a favorite for watersports, as well as those who love to pull into their favorite cove or sandbar, turn off the engine, and gather at the swim platform. The latter now spans the boat’s entire beam, extends nearly 3 feet in depth, and even briefly wraps around the port and starboard sides to facilitate boarding. Sterndrive power also means a sun pad is added atop the engine compartment. Raise the forward cushions to reveal a ratcheting, aft-facing backrest with multiple incline positions. It’s a great spot to prep for watersports or just to chill when the boat is at anchor.
Like other models in the SVX line, the 210 IO blends bowrider style with deck-boat function and capacity. It’s most noticeable in the bow, where a generous, EVA-covered platform leads into a deep, squared-off cockpit that puts an emphasis on passenger comfort, with 3-foot-6-inch lounges accommodating multiple crew or a pair of stretched-out sunbathers. Parents will appreciate the deep, secure feel and beefy stainless-steel grab handles in an area that’s favored by kids. Step through the windshield walk-through into the main cockpit and twin helm and passenger seats await, along with a socialfriendly L-shaped bench spanning the port side and beam.
Though designed to be an affordable,
family-friendly deck-boat option, the SVX displays fun, aggressive handling. Starcraft’s dihedral V-hull design features a trio of forward sponsons, transitioning to a more traditional V aft and a flat pad to deliver faster times to plane and hole shot. At speed, it allows the boat to dive into corners and hook with tenacity. Our test boat, powered by a fuel-efficient 200 hp variation of Mercury’s 4.5-liter MerCruiser engine, topped out at 48 mph. At a 27 mph cruising speed, it burned a mere 6 gph. So it’s fast, sporty and efficient—a win-win situation.
