SEADEK DEK MAGIC

- —Kevin Falvey

I replaced my boat’s traditional cockpit coaming pads with

SeaDek pads (boatingmag .com/seadek-coamingbolster-pads-installation) six years ago and am pleased. The SeaDek pads have held up well aboard my center-console fishing boat, which is stored uncovered and in the water for seven months per year. It has weathered well and hardly stains at all when assaulted by spilled drinks, fish blood and grease.

But after a few years, I just couldn’t seem to make the white portions of the pads bright white again, despite applying my arsenal of maintenance products. So, I called and asked for a test sample of SeaDek’s Dek Magic, the company’s proprietary cleaner. That turned out to be one of my better moves. Application goes like this: 1) Spray on. 2) Scrub in. 3) Wait five minutes. 4) Rinse off.

I did have to repeat the steps once, but after that, a single application keeps my coaming pads clean and bright. I do use household and hardware store products to maintain different areas of my boat. But for SeaDek, I recommend Dek Magic. $24.99 per quart spray bottle, $64.99 per gallon; seadek .com
